"The Norway census of 1825 was taken by John Moon, who lived in the Hurricane on the Cold Brook road... He was a surveyor, school teacher, and a competent, accurate man for the census business....He left town about 1840 and we know nothing more of him or his family."
"The number of inhabitants in town July 1st, 1825, was 1,168, and just evenly divided as to sex....There was then no need of Norway young people going out of town to contract marriage alliances as they were just evenly matched at home."
"No subsequent census has found so many inhabitants in town, as the following table of later enumerations shows:
- 1825 - 1,168 inhabitants
- 1830 - 1,151
- 1835 - 1,131
- 1840 - 1,046
- 1845 - 1,079
- 1850 - 1,052
- 1855 - 1,059
- 1860 - 1,105
- 1865 - 1,080
- 1870 - 1,117
- 1875 - 1,054
- 1880 - 1,045
Owing to a childish quarrel between a political Governor and a partizan(sp) Legislature no census was taken in 1885."
"From careful estimates we judge that there was 950 inhabitants within present town limits in 1800, and the number gradually increased until the highest mark was reached in 1825...There were five aliens, all in the families of John, Robert, and Thos. English. Each town at this date supported their own poor, and Norway was fortunate in having but one of this class....There were 13 marriages, 41 births and 12 deaths for the year ending July 1st, 1825."
