THE TOWN OF HERKIMER

HERKIMER COUNTY, NY

Hi! My name is Betsy Voorhees and I'm your Town of Herkimer Coordinator. Since moving from Boston, Massachusetts in 1959 I have lived in the Herkimer area for the past 38 years. I love this community because of the friendly people, the rural area I live in and the great country air. If there are any genealogy questions about specific families they should be directed to the Herkimer County Historical Society and not to myself. However, I'm happy to offer general advice about the Town of Herkimer, some of which is in my "Tips and Events" article.

HOW I BECAME INVOLVED
It was the day before my retirement in June 1998 when I was searching around the internet for something and unintentionally bumped into the Herkimer/Montgomery web pages. Everything was so very interesting that I was hooked on genealogy and have spent the past year researching for hours and hours for my ancestors. Like most people, I have hit many brick walls. When I was at the proverbial brick wall I decided if I can't find out any more on my ancestors (Ross from Scotland and Buhlman from Germany) then the next best thing I can do is type up cemetery listings hoping our visitors may find links to their ancestors. I will be trying in the future to find some history of Herkimer enabling researchers to see how their ancestors lived while in this area.
