I am trying to locate my ggg-grandfather and mother in NY. His name was William WARD, b. NY and he married Mary WORDEN, b. NY in the late 1700s or early 1800s (pre 1824). They had at least one child, my gg-grandfather Henry WARD, b.10 Jul 1824 in NY (or Hamilton, Canada). Sometime after 1824 William migrated to Dereham, Oxford Co., Ontario, Canada with his family. (they are listed in the 1851 Census of Dereham, Oxford Co., Ontario, Canada). By 1854 Henry WARD had migrated to Lapeer Co., MI where he homesteaded or patented 80 acres of land. If you have any suggestions on how best to locate William Ward or Mary Worden in NY I would appreciate it. I am wondering if William is related to the Wards in the Mohawk Valley area. Regards, Louis.

SNOW, Rebeckah b. Oct 1, 1791 Providence, RI. Family seems to have moved from RI to NY 1795-1810. At Broadalbin, Mont. Co. NY she married Thomas FORCE PALMER. His family had come to NY about the same time from Woodbridge NJ. Rebeckah's Snow Palmer's dates and spelling of name comes from her gravestone. Few other details, though at times descendants spelled name Rebecca. TFP and RS lived at Genesee, Montgomery, Wyoming, Cattauragus counties until about 1835, then to Medina Co OH, briefly to IN, and by 1837 were at Sugar Grove, Kane Co. IL; by 1852 to LaSalle Co, IL where their two sons lived. RS died there Oct 27, 1854 and Thomas 1862. 1790 RI census lists 10 Snow families! William, Jasiah, Samuel, Sarah, Daniel, James, Joseph, Joseph. NY 1790 Mont. Co. Census also lists Joseph Snow!! Anyone know anything about him? Ancestors, parents, etc. children? Thomas and Rebeckah's 1st son was named Joseph Snow Palmer. So were one of the Joseph's in RI census 1790 the father of RS? 1820 Mont. Co census Thomas F. Palmer is living next to Sameul Force. Is he the brother or possibly father of Rebeckah. Appreciate any info. Peter Burrows.

Andrew Vrooman, son of Peter MEESE VROOMAN and Lucretia Van SCHOONHOVAN, was born 3 March 1827 in Montgomery County. Peter Meese Vrooman settled in the Town of Glen in 1837. Andrew married as his 2nd wife, Martha PALMATIER, about 1858/59. In the 1900 census Andrew was enumerated in the Town of Glen, age 73, without Martha in the household. He died 2 November 1905, presumably in Glen, yet the NYS Archives does not have a record of his death. Might he be buried in the Glen Cemetery? Otherwise, what records in Montgomery County might be available that would confirm his death date? Please email me at DAS7901@aol.com Thanks. Am trying to find any info on John GERMAN, Sr., 1740 - 1800. We believe he was one of the German settlers in the Palatine immigrations, or possibly a mercenary with the British Army. We know that he was a British loyalist and moved to Canada after the Revolution. Have no idea where he lived in the US before moving to Canada, but it seems likely it was New York or Pennsylvania. Any info on this, or on the German family in general? We suspect that the name is a revision of the original. Dr. Beth Cruikshank. Miami, Manitoba, Canada. firstname.lastname@example.org Note: although this does not cite our counties specifically, some of our Palatine and Loyalist experts may have some suggestions.

CRONEY/YOUNG - Herkimer County: I have some sketchy family history to share but am also looking for help. My mother was born in Stark, NY 1927 along with 2 brothers, one older and one younger: Henry Richard Croney, Jr b. 1925; Etta (Ettie) Letto Young or Croney b. 1927; Joseph Young or Croney b. 1929. Not sure of marriage certificate of parents but court records found in my mother's possession say they were married in 1924??
In 1930 these 3 children were removed from their home by Department of Public Welfare Court House Herkimer, NY. An Oct 9 1953 a letter to my mother states "there is no history and no information at all. As this was a case in 1930, 23 years ago, and we have no leads to help. There are notes however that in 1939 there was an attempt by someone to find out more about the case, no results." However there are court records stating the removal of these children. The letter further states "after Joseph was placed in the institution he died of pneumonia which followed an attack of whooping cough. There is a record that Henry Richard was boarded in a family in the neighborhood. Our card mentions that the family came from the village of Starkville."
My mother was eventually placed in State Charities Aid Assoc. NY and then adopted. Sometime in 1953 she went to Herkimer to visit the courthouse and I have notes she jotted down, for example: Ms. XXX RIPPLE, Little Falls, Alexandria St; Mr. XXX HOLK, Jordanville; and info of her dad in Middletown Inst. It hints that Ms. Ripple may have been a relative as she states that they all looked like herself. She also states that paperwork at the courthouse stated that Hattie Young mother, after 1930, brought a small baby girl to Public Welfare in Herkimer and requested they place her as they did the others. We later found out that the oldest boy spent his childhood with his dad "working the farm" - Sweetclover Farms. We found him 2 years ago living in Fla. What I need to know is - does Herkimer County Court House still exist? Are records available? We would like to find this female child and any other siblings if possible.

I am looking for any information I can find on the parents of my great-grandfather, Lucius ROCKWELL. According to Lucius' obituary in the "Herkimer Citizen", dated June 15, 1909, his parents names were Edwin and Temperence (MANLEY) Rockwell. It does not mention where Edwin was from, but it says Temperence was the daughter of Thomas Manley and was a native of Norway, NY. The obituary states that Temperence died when he was three. It also states that Edwin moved the family to Camden, Oneida County. He left a sister, Mrs. Cornelia D. BULLARD of Newport and a brother, Edwin A., of Brooklyn. Lucius died in New York City. Lucius was quite an inventor. He invented the machines which first made animal crackers and also alphabet-shaped dough for soups. I am trying to trace the family back past Edwin, i.e., where did he come from and who were his parents, etc. Any help will be of great assistance. I am looking for any information about WILLSON families who lived in Montgomery County in the early 1800's. There are three families of Willsons listed in the 1830 census (neighbors of my own GIFFORD ancestors): these are Reuben Willson, Joel Willson, Ezra Jr., and old Ezra. The spelling is of particular interest to me because many of the Native American's who intermarried into European families were given names such as Brant's son, John's son, and Will's son and family tradition has it that John M. Gifford married an Indian woman whose name was Sally or Sarah Willson (b. abt. 1799). I would appreciate any help from anyone researching the surname Willson. The children of John M. Gifford and Sally Willson were Norman A., Jerome, Reuben, Sarah and Zina. Zina is such an unusual name, I wonder where it came from.
