This reading of the Paine Cemetery was made at an unknown date by Inez Paine after she became became Inez Paine Henderson. This cemetery was situated "at Paine's Hollow in the town of German Flatts". Paine's Hollow is right on the border of German Flatts and the Town of Little Falls, a little further into Little Falls. Another reading was made by Helen Lyon Wikoff and Pernal Copley. The early readings have been combined with another reading [information in brackets] provided to us by the Herkimer County Historical Society. The H.C.H.S. list, reader not stated, notes that this cemetery was "back of Kubeck Farm" on Route 168. Can any descendants confirm the birth or death dates?

On the next list, the small Bellinger Cemetery, it's noted that this particular Bellinger graveyard was "on Route 5S on the right, after crossing bridge; fenced in on a knoll opposite barn". A map of German Flatts shows that if you were driving in a southeasterly direction from the bridge, the cemetery would be near the southeast corner of the intersection of Miller Road and Route 5S. This list was provided by the Herkimer County Historical Society.

This next small family cemetery on what was the Gilbert Farm was "on the north side of Robinson Road, on a hill in stone quarry; abandoned". Robinson Road is Route 46 at the southernmost border of the Town of German Flatts, to the west of Flat Creek. I think there was a transposition in numbers in typing up the dates of death for Hannah and Christopher Calkins. Does anyone recognize the couple? Does anyone know who may have done the reading? The seasoned genealogist knows that typed cemetery lists are not always accurate, whether this is due to the subjectivity of interpreting old, weathered stones (apparent on some of the lists on this page) or "clerical error" after returning from the field. If you see any burial lists on our site with people who you have accurate information about, please contact the coordinator or notify the appropriate historical societies for Herkimer or Montgomery County.
