Gray - Sp. 4 David R. Moran was awarded posthumously the Bronze Star, Army Commendation medal and several other medals and citations Wednesday night in the Wallace Gibson American Legion Post Home.

Moran was killed in action in Vietnam last February.

The awards were accepted by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Moran, Town of Ohio. They were presented by Maj. Edward Karl of the Research and Development Department at Watervliet Arsenal, and Lt. Joe Looney, adjutant at the arsenal.

Other awards included the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign medal, Vietnam Service Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge and a Gold Star to Mrs. Moran.

Maj. Karl said, "it was only a small token of our country in appreciation for the life your son gave."

Herkimer County Judge Albert Schneider, a friend of the family, in choked words had this to say: "It's a wonderful thing to know that David portrayed himself as an outstanding member of the infantry. He was a soldier extraordinary to achieve these awards. Mr. and Mrs. Moran can be very proud their son gave his life in service of this country."

Post Commander Harold Roark had charge of the meeting.
