This photograph of the Lucas Van Allen house, built in 1737 in Kinderhook, NY, was taken by Paul Horvat. The Luykas Van Alen House is on the register of National Historic Landmarks, and is located 25 miles southeast of Albany, and one mile south of Kinderhook, on Route 9H.

According to Paul:

"The Dutch settled in the area of Kinderhook in the 1660's, and one of the largest land owners in the area was Lourens Van Alen, who purchased the De Bruyn Patent. His descendants established many farms on this land, one of the largest being that of Luykas Van Alen, who had a 500 acre farm. This farm stayed in the family for nearly 200 years until 1964, when it was given by William Van Alen to the Columbia County Historical Society. The Columbia County Historical Society has done extensive restoration and preserves the 30 acre site as a museum and model of Dutch farm life of the 17th century."

The Kinderhook Van Alens are the progenitors of the Mohawk Valley Van Allens.
