1835 LETTER IN REGARDS TO ELIJAH JONES

This is a transcript of an original letter written by John W. Tunnicliff, postmaster of Warren in 1835, to Jacob Kerr, a lawyer of Jacksonville, Tompkins County, New York.

Warren Herkimer Co. 6th August 1835

Dear Sir

Yours of the 6th July was recivd -
All the information I can give as Respts
Mr Elijah Jones is that he left the country and
went to the west and the last we have heard from
him was at Orleans then he took a Vesel for
New York he never arrived here but his friends
has heard that he died at Sea he has one Brother
and one Sister here this is all the information
I can give you I was aquanted with Mr.
Jones before he left his gen Condition was thought
not to be good I am yours tr___

On the outside of the stampless folding letter Mr. Kerr wrote the following:


"Letter From
J.W. Tunnicliff Esq.
P.M. at Warren
Herkimer Co. N.Y. -
Informing me that
Elijah Jones is Dead
6th Aug. 1835"

"I wrote to him again
7th September 1835"
