TOWN OF FRANKFORT CEMETERY
Ferguson Road

Town of Frankfort

Herkimer County, NY

Town of Frankfort Cemetery on Ferguson Road was prepared and sent in by Town of Herkimer Coordinator Betsy Voorhees. The original reading was recorded by George Hildebrandt, reader of many area cemeteries in the 1960s. Betsy notes that this is a good one because of the early dates and specific names sought after on our queries boards. This list comes from the Herkimer County Historical Society; further questions about the persons below need to be asked of the Society. Corrections of names and dates are welcome and can be sent in to the site coordinators for posting here.

HUSLER & HULSAVER

May 15, 1999  From Judy Anger: Thank you for the last posting to FRANKFORT. I've been waiting awhile for the listing of thiscemetery. Most of the people are my family. I have one correction. It must have been a transposed letter in transcription.

Eliza M. HUSLER should be HULSER, and Jerome HUSLER should be HULSER.

HULSAVER - there's three names for this spelling. These are definitely my family. Nathaniel HULSER is my g-g-grandfather. The spelling is interesting. Can you clear this up for me? One theory is that the V should be a U. I have not until this posting really found any info on HULSER past the mid 1800's. And the spelling is always HULSER. This gives me another avenue to investigate. Possible German name of HULSAUER. Then Anglicized down to HULSER. Although Nathaniel's father John Hulser also on this posting is spelled HULSER. So if you can shed some light on this puzzlement I'd appreciate any assistance.

BRAZIE

3/23/05   From David Harvey

Your website lists the following for Brazie in the Frankfort (Ferguson Road) Cemetery:

BRAZIE, Mary, D. 6-2-1845, Wf. #1, Hus. David BRAZIE, Sophia, D. 12-16-1854, Wf. #2, Hus. David BRAZIE, Olive, D. 11-18-1858, 10mo, dau of Sophia & David

Mary (Woolner) Brazie is my 2nd Great Grandmother. My wife and I visited the Frankfort Cemetery in 2003, unearthed the stones for Mary, Sophia, and Olive, and tidied them up as best we could. The only part of the headstone that was exposed on first look was "NIEL BRA", and my wife commented that that was a really strange name.

I should like to submit corrections so that the record will read:

BRAZIE, Mary, D. 6-2-1845, Wf. #1, Hus. Daniel BRAZIE, Sophia, D. 12-16-1854, Wf. #2, Hus. Daniel BRAZIE, Olive, D. 11-18-1858 aged 10 years 8 mos. & 6 days, daughter of Daniel & Sophia Brazie

Other readings of this cemetery have called them BRAZIL, instead of BRAZIE.

I've attached photos of the headstones so you can see for yourself. Olive's is a bit hard to decipher, but if you look at it long enough the 8 and 6 become visable.

I'm curious. There's nothing on Mary's or Sopia's headstone to signify (correctly) that they are Daniel's 1st and 2nd wives, so there must have been more cemetery records somewhere else at one time.

That's all... Thanks for the fantastic web site.

MORRIS

new 7/8/17   From Anne Pratt Slatin, Genealogist, Stamford, NY

I have a correction for you and some added information, concerning William Morris.

MORRIS, William, D. 7-15-1850, 37yr-5mo-25da, Wf. Jane Ladd?

William died 10/15/1850 (his will was probated on October 26, 1850 in Herkimer). Although he was born in Frankfort, in 1813, he lived in Jackson, MS, with his wife, the former Martha Jarvis (Martha was born in Baltimore, MD). They moved to Mississippi ca. 1840.

William was in Frankfort, in 1850, on a routine visit with his family when he became very ill, and died. He is buried in this cemetery while his wife, Martha, is buried in the family plot in Jackson. William was not married to Jane Ladd.

You will find the date of William's death verified in the LISTING OF MORRIS FAMILY MEMBERS BURIED IN THE FRANKFORT CEMETERY, NORTH FERGUSON ROAD, FRANKFORT, NY, as compiled by Mrs. Olive R. Parker and (Mrs. J. J.) Edith R. Smithson, co-chairmen of the Genealogical Research Committee of Col. Marinus Willett Chapter, DAR, Frankfort, N.Y. He did not die in July.

I happen to be researching this family right now for a gentleman who lives in Jackson, MS, and who is a descendant of William and Martha.
