Leahman Family Headstones

Fairview Cemetery

Little Falls, NY

My name is Cathy Leahman Thompson and I live in Virginia. My dad left the area of Tully, NY during the WWII and took officer's candidate school where he met my mother. I have cousins still in the area of Tully but do not get there much myself.

I received a lot of information related to my family ancestors from your area and am still researching. The information is from Susan R. Perkins, Administrative Director, Herkimer County Historical Society. They sure are doing a fantastic job there. I have been in touch by email with several distant cousins. One who is still in your area, Steven Knight who shares a common ancestor with my line. He and I are second cousins once removed. His grandmother and my great grandmother were sisters. He happened upon a posting I had done on a query board and sent me a message. I was delighted to find someone who shares some of the same ancestors up in NY who was also interested in Genealogy.

Steven recently went to Fairview Cemetery, Rt. 169 just north of Little Falls, NY, and sent me this information on the Leahman/Warners. From Steve Knight's visit to Fairview Cemetery:

"... last week and found the graves of Charles & Emma Louise (Warner) Leahman." The dates on Charles' stone are 1856-1919; Emma's 1868-1917. Nina M. Leahman, wife of Alvan C. Hadley, 1905-1937. Bessie E. Leahman Edgett 1889-1928. Jerome V. Edgett 1885-1965.

Also found:

A stone for "Maelynn G. Leahman, wife of Lewis A. Philips 1896-1933". Same plot as Charles & Emma, same style stone, right timeframe to be another daughter. Maybe!

A stone for "Kenneth W. Leahman 1899-1941" no other info but he's buried near the other Leahman's.

A large family type stone with the following inscriptions: Joseph Leahman, Co. I 97th Regt. NY Vols, 1819-1890; Mary Ann, his wife, 1827-1903; Wm. Leahman 1858-19__; John Leahman 1847-1909.

Joseph Leahman and Family

A Civil War veteran's stone inscribed: Andrew Leahman Co. I 97th NY Vols. died July 8, 1871 age 56 years.

A double-style gravestone: Leahman, William, Oct. 4, 1858-Nov 13, 1938 and Dora F. Aug. 8, 1878-Apr. 5, 1970. (note info on family stone)."

William and Dora Leahman

The two photos here were taken by my first cousin Bob Griffith (raised in Tully) some years ago. It would be great if this leads to a discovery one of these days that links the Leahman brothers, Joseph and Andrew, who came here from Germany, to where they came from and who their parents were.
