LITTLE LAKES CEMETERY
Town of Warren
Herkimer County, NY
The reading of the Little Lakes Cemetery was made by Mrs. M. M. Hatch of South Columbia, Herkimer County, in the early 1920s. The only clue to its location on the November 1926 typescript of this list was Mrs. Hatch's notation that it was located "near Warren, Herkimer County". We now have directions to the specific location.
8/15/98 Chris Devoe makes a site visit. Deborah Palmer House has sent us a bit of info. And Gary Thompson has sent us driving instructions. All listed at the bottom of this page.

8/15/98: I visited the Little Lakes cemetery last Thursday. It is in very poor shape -- I guess I didn't realize it from the description on the web page. The grass is being cut, but most headstones are either broken or badly worn and over grown by grass. Someone is taking care of the place, but no attempt seems to be ongoing to restore it. Stones at the rear (East) of the cemetary are in the best shape and are mostly readable -- these are the Tunnicliff stones. Chris DeVoe
I have ancestors buried in the Little Lakes Cemetery (Marcus and Nancy MABEE STERNBERG). In researching the First Methodist Episcopal Church, I came across this information:
Previous to 1871, no organized society.
"Old Warren meeting house" (1 mile from the village) and "Old Columbia meeting house" (6 miles from the village). At the hamlet of Little Lakes in Warren, 3 miles distant, was a pretty little church under a regular pastor Rev. Mr. Stanton. Incorporated May 29, 1871.
Another reference to Marquis Sternberg said he donated the land where the present Methodist Episcopal Church stands in Richfield. I realize this isn't much to go on, but if you've received any other information, it may help tie things together. If you have already found out the exact location, I would love to know where it is. Deborah Palmer House
And the location is, ta-da-dum:
"Going east from Richfield Springs, on Rte. 20, just past the trailer sales and just entering the hamlet of Warren is a driveway. This driveway is directly behind the hamlet of Warren boundary sign, on the right or south side of the road. Straight up this driveway on a knoll by an old fallen down barn is the cemetery. If anyone has trouble finding it have them call me at (I have the number), and I'll help them." Gary Thompson.
Thank you Gary!
